Walmart has listed its new ‘Pro’ Google TV streaming box/smart speaker combo, a week after the product leaked into the real world and intermittently appeared on its store site.
Priced at $49.88, the new On 4K Pro includes built-in Google Assistant, Dolby Vision + Atmos, HDR, a big blue ‘Free TV’ button that points to Google’s FAST channel, and a smart speaker with a big blue ‘Free TV’ button for launching apps and switching TV inputs. New features include a customizable star button remote control that can be used to launch apps and switch TV inputs.
The power supply is a barrel plug instead of AC or USB-C, but at least an HDMI cable is included.
The square black set-top box is nothing to hide in the entertainment center. It has a built-in microphone and works like a Nest Mini with Google Assistant: You can ask the Onn 4K Pro to play YouTube videos or turn on smart home lights hands-free. The embedded mesh fabric cover and four LEDs in a row also look like a Nest Mini.
The Onn 4K Pro is not made by Google, but it appears to be the successor to the $49.99 Chromecast with Google TV, which launched in 2020. By comparison, the Onn 4K Pro has Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet for more flexible connectivity, while the Chromecast only has Wi-Fi 5. Onn also has more RAM (3GB vs. 2GB), more internal storage (32GB vs. 8GB) and can say ‘Hey Google’ without having to hold the remote.
