New streaming bundles are coming. Disney and Warner Bros Discovery have teamed up to offer Disney Plus, Hulu and Max in a bundle.
The new bundle will include both ad-supported and ad-free options, but pricing is not yet known. Disney and Warner Bros Discovery said they will share “more details” about the bundle “in the coming months”. Once the bundle is released, it will be available for purchase through Disney Plus, Hulu or the Max website.
This fall, Disney-owned ESPN will also launch a live sports streaming service with Warner Bros Discovery and Fox.
The bundle comes at a crucial time for the streaming industry, where companies are looking at revenue rather than subscriber numbers when assessing the strength of their services. On Tuesday, Disney announced that Disney Plus and Hulu posted a first-time profit of US$47 million.
“Following the very successful launch of Hulu on Disney+, this new bundle with Max provides even more choice and value for our subscribers,” Joe Early, Disney’s president of direct-to-consumer, said in a statement. Warner Bros Discovery will release its financial results on Thursday and Bloomberg reports that the company will announce more layoffs and also implement price hikes.
As streaming options continue to become more expensive, more subscribers may turn to bundled offerings to save a few dollars. Alongside Disney’s lucrative streaming bundles, Max and Netflix have teamed up to offer cheaper packages through Verizon.
